Bicolor Basslet

Lipogramma klayi

The Bicolor Basslet is a stunning deepwater reef fish prized for its vibrant coloration, peaceful temperament, and rarity within the marine aquarium hobby. Native to the Caribbean and western Atlantic, this beautiful species features a striking two-tone appearance with a brilliant golden-yellow front half that transitions into a vivid magenta to purple rear body and tail. Its bold coloration and graceful swimming behavior make it an eye-catching addition to any specialized reef aquarium.

Naturally found along deep reef walls and rocky outcroppings, the Bicolor Basslet thrives in mature aquariums with abundant rockwork, caves, and shaded retreat areas. Peaceful and reef-safe, it coexists well with other non-aggressive tankmates and spends much of its time hovering near rock structures while actively exploring its surroundings. This species readily accepts a variety of frozen and prepared foods and adapts well to aquarium life when maintained in stable conditions. Its unique coloration, deepwater origins, and limited availability have made the Bicolor Basslet a highly desirable choice for collectors seeking uncommon Caribbean reef fish.
